multistem cordyline

Hi new to this!
have been given some 2/3ft high multistem cordylines. they have lots of brown leaves at the bottom and i know to cut these off close to the stem.but can i separate the stems to make single stem plants .

I'm imagining that your multistemmed plants are quite a size and I don't think you can just divide the stems to create single stemmed plants with these as they will share a massive tap root at the base. It sounds strange but you can root the trunks but it's more risky as they won't have roots. If they are small plants then you can remove them and grow them on easier.
