Help with lavender dying

I brought these two lavender in May and planted them out, but they now seem to be dying. I've got clay soil, but I added lots of grit when planting and built them up in a bit of a mound to aid drainage. I'm wondering if I should dig them up and put them in a pot instead? Or are they beyond saving? Any ideas appreciated

Have you ever watered them? It doesn't look like it.
  • I've been watering once a week.

They will go a bit grey towards the wood but there is still green so water them and the soil around to start. Your soil looks like it needs more organic matter, and water, in general.

They do look a bit dry, but also lavender goes that colour at the base.  They look like  healthy plants to me.  The flowers are lovely.  I have a huge lavender bush that I would gladly take a photo of the base, but it is full of industrious bees, so I'd better leave well alone!!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

Newly planted lavender will need watering more than once a week - I planted three in May and have been watering them every other day.  Once they are established they'll require less frequent watering.  In the current dry spell, I'd water your plants daily until they start to improve.
