I don't know if things have changed now, but the source of many of them was plants imported from Holland. We bought a Parahebe a few years back and when we repotted it we found over 50 grubs in the compost. That plant we had watched being unloaded from a lorry so we knew exactly where it had come from.
The other thing to note is that they love peat based composts, so the move to peat free stuff may have an additional benefit.
I do have vine weevils in many of the plant pots and have to use nematodes every year to get rid of the grubs. I find that they come through the garden-ready plants like polyanthus, geraniums fuchsias etc. which are bought from stores like BnQ, HB etc.

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Nightly patrols works for me. The adults concentrate on certain leaves (my roses are a mess), so I know now where to look. I still loose the odd polyanthus and pansy’s but I have limited the damage by growing plants they seem less interested in. As I only have pots it’s all about keeping them under control as I never seem to be able to totally eradicate them.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
