Chinese Privet Tree Problem

Hi. Hopefully somebody can help me out. We've got a Ligustrum lucidum Superbum (Chinese Privet) in our garden that has been dropping quite a few leaves for the past couple of months and not matching the type tree planted at the same time.

On further inspection I've found cracks in the bark near ground level and a little dead behind the bark along with a possible root growing out of it.

Should I be concerned?

I've looked everywhere online but not finding anything so thought I'll ask the question here?

Below are a few photos to help.

Left one is the problem one. There seems to be a difference in colour between the left and right.

Thank you.

I wouldn't be too concerned about evergreens dropping leaves at this time of year, unless it continues to get worse. I wonder if your tree is just simply growing?
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
