Hogweed ...

Is the Common Hogweed as bad for dogs to be around as the Giant Hogweed is? noticed some today near where my mutt goes ...

I'd like to plant it in my garden
  • Do you want your slippers? maybe a nice cup of tea?

I don't think it's a problem @gazwilson194, unless your dog intended eating lots of it - which I presume is unlikely!
The standard hogweed isn't as 'potent' as the giant one, so although the sap can still be an irritant [for humans and animals]  it's not as severe.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • Thanks Dove, that's cleared it up for me, we get lots of the not so nice giant stuff around here as well ....

Steer clear of giants … they’re not all BFGs 😉

    You don’t like it?

  • Yes, I agree ... but you don't generally see the pretty flowers as they are too high and the foliage, in my opinion, is one of the ugliest! If only there was a 'fairy hogweed', it might be more appreciated. However, I have LOADS in my unruly/unkept garden. 😳🙄😅 At least the bees love them. 🐝
