How to control blackfly on herbs

Some of our herbs are absolutely smothered in blackfly.  Searches for treatment generally come up with a weak washing up liquid solution, which doesn't sound ideal for food crops.  Alternatvie suggestions welcomed.

    If you add just 3-4 drops of washing up liquid (or shower gel which has less aggressive chemicals in it) to 1/2 litre of water in a hand-help sprayer that should do it.
    The washing up liquid/shower gel just acts to break the surface tension of water, that's why you only need a tiny amount.
