I have several pots that contain spring flowering bulbs. Once they've finshed, I move them out of sight so that they can die down, keeping them well watered through the summer. Around the beginning of September, I get them back into position, give the pots a good weed over and sometimes I empty them out and replant the bulbs in fresh compost. It is essential that the bulbs get a good drink during the summer months otherwise you may be disappointed in spring.
Yes @Lyn - the pretty wee Irises that flower late winter/early spring are the reticulatas. They're lovely [apart from that horrible pale blue one ] but they do disappear, so best treated as an annual. I don't feed bulbs in the ground, but it gives ones in pots a bit of a boost as they don't benefit from the surrounding soil like the ones in the ground. I don't always remember though. I'm not sure how much benefit it is though - I've never really experimented.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
