@Tam_Thumb I have seen this sort of thing happen before when one plant thrives and one doesn't only feet away. There are so many possible reasons, from slightly different soil conditions to watering and light. It could also have struggled at some point before you bought it, watering from above is no good if the compost has dried out.
You are much further north, so planting at present is not such a problem .I would not plant anything out at present it is much too dry and hot. My plants that are filling their pots are getting a plunge now and then in a bucket covering the compost.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
