Acer bark disease?

John 35John 35 Posts: 6
Hello, my acer appears to be dying. It looks like the bark has split and there’s some white patches.
The leaves seem to be curling upside down and changing colour underneath and there’s some dying branches.
I’ve had it for years and am worried about it.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is and any cures?
Many thanks

    could it be wind/sun damage?

Is the damage just on the side of the shrub where the bark damage is @John 35 ?

hi Uff. Thanks for your reply. There’s one dead branch on the other “half” to the damaged bark. And a few dead twigs toward the top of where the damage is.

I gave it a huge soak last night and it seems to have perked up a bit.

I think that fungus has got into the tree, where that branch has been cut off. Ideally you should not have left a horizontal end as water can pool on it.
