Lobelia help

Hi we have two lobelia queen Victoria’s in our garden that seem to look shredded like someone has peeled the stems, any idea what it is and what we can do about it?

    Slugs, they love Lobelia QV.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Ah. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a slug in the garden but we do seem to have a lot of snails! Could they be the culprits and if so anything we can do about it?

They need alot of water so they will always be a magnet to slugs. The problem is slugs and snails are vital food for birds especially at the moment.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
