An ecologist fried commented that our local hedgerows look 'dormicey' to her but I've never seen any evidence of them - I check the hazel nut shells occasionally for the tell tale signs. I live in hope. I have feral raspberries and goosegogs planted in long grass as well as lots of hazels and elder and brambles. They may be here but out of sight I suppose. I have very occasionally glimpsed hedgehogs but I think there are a few around, they just stay in the long grass and away from us - I see what I suspect is hedgepig poo here and there. I don't imagine I'd notice dormouse poo
Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
Read an interesting article yesterday about a dormouse survey. The researchers were surprised at how many toads they found in the nest boxes, even quite a distance up trees! Can’t remember where I saw it. Edited It was in The Guardian, and other on line papers, on Wednesday.
I read that too. I can understand toads living in hollow trees or logs where water collects but it's amazing to see how high they climb and that they'll hide out in dry nest boxes too. I wonder if something encourages them to climb a specific tree or if they just naturally explore trees?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Thank you for uploading it.
Loads of our garden is a right jungle so they should love it.
