Plum tree problems
We have a Jubilee plum tree which is about 5 years old. In the last fortnight or so, the leaves and fruit forming on the upper section of the central trunk have started to die back - see the photographs below. The rest of the tree seems healthy at the moment, and fruit is forming.

I'd be grateful for advice on what is causing this and what action we need to take to try to stop the problem spreading - we are planning to prune out the affected section of the tree, although this will be quite substantial in terms of the tree as a whole.
