Prunus nipponica brilliant

I have 3-4yr old tree, which was doing very well until approx 2mths ago, when individual branches started to die. Initially all the leaves on the branch curl then wilt and go brown, but don't drop off. The branches affected are in various positions on the tree. Did think it had suffered from drought, but it's only affecting random branches and I've been watering regular since I spotted the first couple of dead branches. Is this some sort of wilt and if so what should I do?

We had a very dry Spring around here with no rain at all in March or April and not a lot before or after that, so it's most likely water-related if you have had similar conditions.

There are some viruses that cause similar problems e.g. verticillium wilt, but prunus are not usually susceptible to that. It could be some other sort of virus, but it's not something I have experience of.
If you could post a pic or two that may help with a diagnosis.

Great - thanks for the photos.
I don't have any prunus, but it looks like a bit of trivial damage to me for whatever reason.
The rest of the tree looks as if it's in fine health and prunus are really, really tough.
I'd just prune the dead bits off.
