Droopy Rowan

Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong it was fine standing upright a couple weeks ago and now it's all spindly and drooping it's only been planted 18 months I'm a newbie gardener so I'm at a loss

    Hi @drummondcharlotteGOSqbmjh and welcome to the forum 😊 

    How much water are you giving it?  

    I’d be giving it a minimum of two buckets full of water twice a week from early March until the end of September. 

    I don’t know where you are but most parts of the UK have had a very dry year so far. 

    I hardly had to water anything last year but I’ve got soaker hoses running today and youngish  shrubs and trees have had a couple of buckets full poured gently over the roof area so that it soaks in and doesn’t run off.

    Hi I'm in north east Scotland I've started to water more perhaps a bucket a day as one neighbour thought I wasn't watering it enough so may be I will try more water I was worried about over watering it

    A really good soak a couple of times a week is the best way. 

    It might be that the weight of the foliage is just too much for young branches … @Fairygirl is in Scotland and she knows Rowans well. I’ve given her a nudge … hopefully she’ll see this and maybe have a few more ideas.

    The tyre won't be helping, as it will probably be dry underneath it.
    I planted a few Rowans recently and they are getting a couple of gallons of water every few days, poured slowly into the root ball area.

    Hi your not that far away im sunny Dundee too.lol..... My other dogs ashes are buried beneath the tree so i put the tyre round so i could add some decorative stones ect if you think tyre wont be helping i could take a fork round under it to let water in ive done that on the inside last week . it would be a nightmare to remove the wee stones in there but if i had to i could . !!!

    I'd get rid of the tyre, and give it more water.

    You don't want to have anything within a 3 foot dia. of the trunk, grass included.  After a few years when the tree is established you might be able to add decorative features.

    Ok I will start emptying out the stones then remove the tyre . Thanks for the help
