^are you quite sure you have the correct rose?

I see quite a few thorns on yours, prickly new growth too, and WOH has very few, also I've never seen it salmon turning to a shade of pink..

Yes, I'm not to be trusted with colours seeing that I'm the 1 out of 200 that's colour blind  ;)

I've scrabbled around the base, braving the spiders for the label - it could be it's labelled wrong but.... ?

@fire - I think I prefer Buff Beauty - it has more flowers for me. However, that might just be because it's in better soil in a sunnier spot. I think I prefer the scent too. WOH is a heavy (myrrh?) scent and BB is a lighter frangrance which reminds me of loose tea leaves.

They can both be large sprawling plants with lots of whippy new growth. I'm thinking of putting an obelisk over Buff Beauty and trying it as a climber. At the moment it's just being grown as a shrub. WOH is trained as a climber.

My current favourite soft apricot rose is Roald Dahl - healthy, flowers all summer, lovely scent, not too many thorns and keeps a nice bushy shape. Smaller plant though.

A 6-foot high wall should be ok. How much lateral space is there?

As @Tack and @Obelixx said you can train the canes laterally — below is a diagram from https://www.classicroses.co.uk/blog/post/training-climbing-and-rambling-roses (but of course reality may not be this perfect)

My WOH took a long time to get going (first year sleeping, second year creeping as they say). In the third year it put out a couple of eight+ foot main canes, and now in its fourth year it is starting to grow another main cane.

The canes are smooth with few thorns and very pliable, so it should be easy to train. I think it’s an elegant rose but I will admit it’s not as floriferous as I’d like. I’m hoping it will grow more flowers over time. I do like its strong, non-rosey scent (haven’t smelled Buff Beauty) and love the pale delicate colour.

Oh yes, a single rose from my WOH — its very last bloom, in January this year — did turn pink. This was the only time I’ve seen it happen, probably because of the cold. I couldn’t believe it so I took pictures (ignore the yellow rose in the background of the first photo, that is Vanessa Bell)

Thanks for the advice.  I will train the laterals along wires if that is OK.
