Have you tried citronella oil? Works a treat. Can be bought in candle form, that you burn outside, but also certain hardy geraniums eg Attar of Roses, have citronella smelling leaves that are brilliant for deterring mozzies. Years ago, a family friend had a sonic mozzie repeller, tiny thing it was: ran in batteries and emitted a frequency that apparently deterred the females (I think!). We borrowed it for a trip to Greece and I kid you not, we didn’t get stung once.
Never managed to find one of my own to buy, sadly.
Get a bucket of the water from the established bigger ponds locally and add to your pond where the insect larvae might be mosquitos. I read that this is effective at enriching the ecosystem of a new pond and when I did this myself found within a few weeks the pond that had been filled recently that I had just built was filled with water boatmen, water skaters and water beetles which I believe are all potential predators of mosquito larvae.
Honestly love all the ideas but I am on a first floor terrace so frogs etc would definitely not be an option. The product arrived yesterday and clearly states it is safe for fish ponds, animal watering troughs etc, so I’m going to give it a try.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.
Lol fire, sorry I never think to check the messages on here🤪. I put some “bits” in so I’ll let you know the results, thanks for the info and the offer…even if I didn’t see it.. 🫣
