Flying insects on new hedging plants

Sorry I'm very new to gardening. I've seen lots of these flies on Portuguese laurel plants. Can you please identify what they are and if I need to do something about it?

  • Can't say what type of fly these are but its fairly natural for flies to use shrubs as a place to shelter and rest rather than constantly flying about and never heard of a fly that was a problem for laurel plants. I don't think you need to do anything about them being there.

    Happy gardening!

There are like 40-50 on each 80cm tall plant so got worried if they can cause some damage to young plants. I haven't even planted some and don't want them to die on me lol
