Lilac tree: curled leaves with brown patches

Good afternoon,

Could anyone advise what might be wrong with my lilac tree? Planted 8 years ago. South facing but often shaded by two beech trees so doesn't flower much. In May I noticed the leaves at the top started to curl, thought it might be a bit thirsty so watered it well a few times. The curling continued and it ⁹now has brown spots on the leaves.

Is it a nutrient deficiency? Would bone meal help? I will attach photos which are likely to be upside down!😄

Many thanks

I think it's gasping for water. Whereabouts in the country are you? If you have drought and your lilac is competing with the beech it will need water.
