Help! Parts of plants are dying - unknown cause

help please! Over the past few years some parts of our plants have been dying and two trees have fully died. Other plants around them are fine (see pics - red circles dead parts). We have no idea what might be causing it. Any suggestions please?

Trees planted with grass up to the bark may struggle to get enough water, the grass gets it before the tree.  The other cause could be honey fungus , but you would have to dig them up and look at the roots to check.

In the 3rd picture, the one on the left that’s been cut down is a conifer,   It’s an old one,  Some don’t live for long,  ours started dying off after 30 years,  yours has had all the branches cut off,  they won’t grow again from that,  you may as well cut it right down and pick axe it out.

With the conifer behind it you can just cut off the dead bits, that will tidy it up and the upper branches will fall to cover the space.

In the 2nd picture,  the tree is very near the laurel hedge so probably dried out.

The Buddlia next to it would benefit from a good cut down,   Take half off after flowering then cut back to about a foot from the ground next March.

Dig a nice space of bare earth around them so they will benefit from rainfall.

In the 1st picture, just cut the dead bits off. Things happen,  there’s plenty of green left.

Thank you. We cut back the Buddleia every year so will continue to do so.
