Perennials for rocky soil

I have a bank with heavy soil and and a lot of stones.  Are there any perennials suitable to this type of ground ? I live in Cumbria where we get more than our fair share of rain.

    @powderworks Perhaps you could consider Campanulas.  If you want to cover ground C portenschlagiana, a bit of a thug but easy to pull out.
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
