Pruning roses

I'm not sure if it's something I'm going wrong, but I've noticed a few times now that when I've deadheaded some shoots, I get a brown circle around the edge of the shoot that I've cut.

I do it at an angle but not sure if it's wind damage or anything like that.

    It's normal for the stem to die back to the nearest bud (which will usually produce new growth). The plant has no reason to send any resources to the stem above the bud because it is useless.

    Ah ok thanks, I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I have just nipped off the brown bits but sounds like it's normal then
