Dahlia novice needing reassurance 🙄

First time growing Dahlias (amongst everything else!) unsure what/where to deadhead, could someone advise please? Image 1 showing what I think are spent flower heads and image 2 are new buds? How far down should I snip the finished ones? Thanks

    Yes ... you've got it ✔

I cut them down at the next joint ... leaf axil.

Yes, spent blooms are pointy- ish / more cone-like and soft. New buds are more spherical and firm.
  • Thanks @Dovefromabove and @Fire, much appreciated. And good to know I was on the right track. Think I might be getting a bit of a handle on this gardening malarkey! 🤣
