Sprayed or Drought?

Noticed a section only of banding of yellow leafs to my laurel hedging - gardener reckons been sprayed by oddball neighbour and or could it be recent heatwave?

    It looks sprayed to me.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Definately not recent heatwave? Will they recover? (Section of leafs only yellowing).

    Is this criminal damage?

    Any thoughts to prevent?

It looks too neat to be natural.
I'd say it's criminal damage. Someone else will be along to advise you about recovery.

Where I live the council sprays road edges just like that, to keep back growth. Could it be that?

No - as a private road. Just did thin out hedging before recent heatwave; could it be leaf burn?

Are you able to get a closer photo?

I think it looks more like drought. It's probably quite dry there with the big trees.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Thats what i thought as tree canopies reach over road so any rain does not hit hedging.

It seems to be where the laurel was 'thinned out' as you mentioned earlier, so I think it probably needs to recover from that and the dry weather isn't helping.
