Dieback or not ?

This is a picture of a stem on my danse de feu rose. Not sure if it’s die back or natural colour? It’s more of a brown colour then black. I cut it back two weeks ago when I first noticed but seems to be spreading. Grateful for any advise.

I'd cut that stem right back to the lowest bud or stem, just above it. Don't cut way above a bud or stem, it will always die back from that

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Should I cut the stem at an angle or straight ?

I would cut at an angle, sloping away from the next shoot.
