harmonyharmony Posts: 403
Hi, I have had this cutting of Berberris Darwinii ( the one with orange flowers in spring ) in this pot for about 18mths, would it be ok to grow it in a big pot i just haven't got room for it in the garden. Thanks

Doubtful. Not really suited to pots, unless you're talking about something massive, or purpose built. You'd be continually pruning it, so you'd lose the flowering/berrying potential.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

My Berberis Darwinii is about 8ft tall and I think it would be even bigger if I didn't keep it under control. I realy think that long term it needs to be in the ground.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

I've just cut mine down - it had tree like proportions!  Best to find a new home for it with a friend or neighbour who has space in their garden.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
