Black stems on chilli plants

Hi there,

Noobie to gardening here... have grown chilli plants from seeds, and have noticed that I have black spots on the stems of my plants recently. All plants have been watered regularly but have started using tomorite recently, not sure if that has been rhe cause of the problem? Have had a couple of chilli peopera growing over the last week, but parts of the plant look like their dying! Have been advised that this may be blight, or a fungal infection, bu really don't know what I've done wrong here?  Any help o advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance ☺

Hi @toby.sheaff7ofQ_cNd  and welcome to the forum 😊

Some chillis which produce dark coloured fruit also show coloration at the joints of the stems. Could it be that?  From what I can see in the photo that’s what it looks like to me.

Hi @Dovefromabove, I'm really hoping that this is normal as you say... I've heard the same info on a few threads, so I'm hoping that it's not something to worry about. I'm growing seranno and cayenne peppers, but it's my first time growing chillis so I'm hoping it's not gone horribly wrong 😕  have grown these from seeds since march and terrrified im going to lose them, so thank you for the vote of confidence ☺ fingers crossed lol

As Dove says - it's nothing to worry about it's just what they do.
I've been growing peppers and chillies for years.
Just had a look at mine-
Both of my Jalapenos have the same marks, 5 of my 6 Corno di Toro Rosso peppers have it too.
None of my 5 Hotscotch chilies have it.
I don't know why some have these marks and others don't, but It's completely normal.

  • Thanks for the info @Pete.8 !! Really good to hear, thank you for taking the time to post. Feeling very relieved to say the least lol 😁

Not only Chillies but some Peppers also exhibit the same colouration on the stem joints.
