Leggy Roses

Hi all, I have some lovely roses but they've gone very very leggy. When I dead head can I shorten the stems or will I make a mess of things

    Yes, you can shorten the stems, I do.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    I do too, I take them down maybe 6 inches or more to an outward facing leaf.
