Agapanthus in ground not flowering, fine in pots

Hi any ideas.  Three patches of agapanthus in the ground for about 8-10 years which have never failed before, this year not a single flower spike.  In the pots they have all thrown up spikes and are about to flower.  Any idea what could cause the ones in the ground to stop flowering?

I'm new to the beautiful agapanthus, but my one in the ground is only just getting buds on, while the one in the pot in the ground has been budding a couple of weeks now - could they just be late this year?

Dryness? Just a guess - don't mistake me for an expert! I've got well-established daffodils in the ground that came up blind last year when we had virtually no rain in March. Flowered fine this year.

@adamadamant I wonder if it might be a water issue. I don't have as many flowers forming on my Agapanthus as last year. They are in the ground, they have very thick fleshy roots and because it has been so dry for sometime maybe they haven't had as much water as they would like. I do water and feed them but it does seem it still might not be enough. In pots watering is more concentrated.

One of the main causes of non flowering is lack of food and water AFTER flowering.
They make the buds unerground ( like daffodils ) and if they don't have enough food / water late in summer, they're very shy to flower.
Having said that, it's still only June, so I'd not worry just yet.

Ok I’ll wait and see what happens but you’re all on the same track.  Thank you for all your tips.

Same here,  ones in pots tall flower buds, ones in the ground not so,  probably because the ones in pots have been protected over winter,  ones in ground haven’t,  I’m sure they’ll  grow on now the weather has warmed up,   The ground has been so cold for so long this year.

No flower buds on ours in the ground but then we always seem to have them flowering a lot later than others. We wait and we see!

My late ones aren't showing any buds yet. The earlier ones are budding nicely. It's not been agapanthus weather - might be a poor year
