Climbing rose

Hi I'm new to climbing roses (starlight express) so was wondering for some advice please. I'm growing a climbing rose I planted last year and ive been doing the criss Cross with the main stems technique and it's going well. But I have long lateral canes. What's the best thing to do with them. Do you leave them to grow up and straight or do u twist them in with the other stems.
