Can anyone tell me what plant this is please and what caterpillar is eating it? Many thanks

    That looks to me very much like a goat willow Salix Caprea … often self seeded into gardens by the fluffy wind-borne seeds … not always suitable for ‘normal’ gardens as they grow very large, but a wonderful food resource for all sorts of wildlife if you have enough space.

    The caterpillar I can see may be one of the sawflies … but I can’t see it clearly enough to be sure.  Probably destined to become a fledgling’s lunch very soon.
