Borage seeds and a problem

I grew borage from seed last year and, despite the weeds, they grew into strong plants. I have been planning to save the seeds to grow some more; I realise that they will self seed anyway, but want to raise the plants myself and position them in other areas of the garden. Some of the seeds are set and I have removed them, but some/part of the plants are not looking very healthy ... they are covered in white as you can see in the photos. I picked these parts off, complete with seed heads and am wondering a) what the white stuff is, and b) if the almost/unripened seeds will be viable; I haven't removed these seeds from the cut stem - just the black ripened seeds. Many of the seeds have already dropped and dispersed. The plant has fallen over, amongst the buttercups (bad gardener 🤦🏼‍♀️). It's a long time since I have grown borage and cannot remember whether the 'white' is normal.
Any thoughts please?

Could it be botrytis? Someone else will hopefully add their thoughts.

No, it’s not normal but it’s finished now,  take off what seeds you can when they’re ready to easily fall into your hand and dump the plant in the dustbin.  It won’t do anything else anyway.
