Too late to prune lilac tree?

    Hi @borgadr; thanks for your reply.  Sorry to hear your lilac didn't flower this year, especially given that you cut it back immediately after flowering?  I very much hope that next year it flowers for you.  Thank you.  :)

    Thanks @linzijayne74 - I was advised by members on here that this is completely normal.  I fully expect it to flower again next year!

    Hard hard pruning of lilacs can trigger a response of a retaliatory profusion of suckers from the roots.

    Hi @borgadr; I have no doubt that the good members of this forum are correct and next year you'll have more lilac than you know what to do with!  :)

    Hi @BenCotto; yes, I can imagine that's very true.  Nature is very clever.  I shan't take back my lilac very much; I don't really want suckers to contend with as well!  Thank you.  :)
