Planter grown grape vine

Hello from Andalucia. I have a grape vine bought just before I moved to a house with small concrete patios. It had flowers on it then but has produced none since. I made a metre square half meter deep planter for it and it produces lovely shade in a small enclosed patio. My problem is that when I planted it i only had enough compost to 3/4 fill the planter and over the years this has also washed out a bit. I have some old perlite that i thought of using but am concerned about covering too much of the crown of the now 11 year old vine. Any advice?

Could you - with a bit of help - lift it in the planter, with as much soil as possible, and backfill with compost underneath?
  • I had vaguely thought of that but for some reason never given it a try. I think It is perhaps the best thing. For now I've added some left over perlite to just try and give the roots somewhere else to grow but when I cut it back in november or december i think your idea will be given a go. My son will give me a hand im sure.
Thank you. Youve given me the confidence to give it a go.
