Genistas Dying, how to fix?

Evening all,

my first post here. I am new to gardening so you will have to forgive me. 31 year old male trying his best in a new hobby.

I have been gifted 4 genistas and planted them around 4 weeks ago. Unfortunately they are starting to wilt and looks like they are dying to me.

I am based in stoke on trent, UK and the soil is quite heavy with clay.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem before they completely die?

many thanks in advance

newbieRob

were they in pots or bare root. That's a large plant to move bare root at this time of year and Genistas don't like it at any time

  • They were potted. In fairness, they weren’t from a nursery but from a florist.

they've really struggled to take. Do you think they’re salvageable at all?

thanks So much for the advice.

Not sure is the honest answer. Have you watered them enough? I think I’d be inclined to move the stones away from the roots a bit so that they’re not so crowded and water can get to the roots .Might help but like all gardening it’s wait and see .

Lots of water … a bucket full each … every other day for a week … then once a week for 3 weeks and cross your fingers. 🤞
They don’t usually need a lot of water, but I suspect the roots had dried out a bit in the pots before they were planted.
