Lovely moth

I found this lovely moth resting up amongst the foliage yesterday, and I was wondering if anyone could ID it. Thank you.

    Yes a really lovely moth!

It’s a magpie moth (Abraxas grossulariata)
    Cambridgeshire, UK

Thanks for that @Athelas...I do think that moths can be every bit as beautiful as butterflies, but because they are in the main night creatures we don't often see them like this.

    Gorgeous! 😊
I've got a night scented phlox but I never see a moth on it, despite being a night owl.

I grew nicotianas for the moths but never saw a moth near them.

@pansyface...I had one of those feeding off my verbena bonariensis last year. It only stayed a minute or two but I managed to catch a very blurred photo of it and a very knowledgeable person on here managed to ID it. I'd never seen one before and probably won't see one again.

Oddly enough our HBH Moth turned up early this year - mid April  ( coastal west Somerset ) but then didn't see it again until the other day. Worth the wait tho.
