Has your cistus stopped flowering already?

I have the white and the pink variety. Both look like they’re done. No flowers but they did early. What to do now? Very bushy too. Do I just prune back as much as I can to get them in shape? Will they bloom again this summer?

  • I have Cistus "Gold Prize". It has already finished flowering and will not flower again this year, but it does have evergreen variegated foliage in compensation.

They only flower for about a month, and don't reflower.

It is important to trim them back now, as much as needed, as they will go leggy and woody - they don't regrow from the woody stems, so you can't `hard prune` them later.

Ah ok, what a shame they’re done for the year. I didn’t even get to see them much at all. I’ll start pruning as tight as I can to maintain their shape in that shape then. I’ve also given the escallonia a chop back as again it didn’t flower.
At least the philadelphus is blooming but I must remember to manage the height of it.

You should consider Cistus 'Thrive'.. it continues to flower into autumn if spent flowers are snipped off... producing flush after flush..

.. this photo is from Oct. 2nd.. still some flowers left and a few more to come..

That that looks lovely @Marlorena, I’ll look out for that next time. I like the pink one too, maybe it’s too far away for me to appreciate regularly. And yes they are evergreen so the leaves provide structure, I just need something else to take over flowering. Maybe a fuchsia nearby.
