Rose ID please
Background: this rose is approx. 10 years old, I think.
It belonged to the elderly lady who died in the house we bought, a few years ago.
When we first inherited it, it was a 30cm long stick poking out amongst weeds and rubble in the front garden’s crazy paving. It survived builders trampling it, a skip squashing it and absolute zero care, for a long time.
I discovered it was there by accident, stuck it in a pot and hoped for the best.
The following spring (2019) leaf buds emerged and as it was a true fighter, we replanted it into the ground, in its current spot.
No idea which rose it is, so we named it Helen N, after its elderly first owner. I hope if she can see it from somewhere, that she is pleased.
Initially I thought it may be a Peter Beales, but now I’m not so sure.
It seems to be a very healthy, vigorous floribunda with pure white blooms and visible anthers that the bees love.
The scent is light but delicious, sweet and rather old rose.
It flowers right up to the first frosts and loves being south facing with its feet in free draining soil, London clay beneath.
🙏🏻
