Nemophila - what do I do with it?

IlikeplantsIlikeplants Posts: 894
I have the five spot variety grown from seeds. The transplanted ones in the ground died, slugs, dried out, not sure. The ones in a container did very well but seem to have mostly died off now. Not helped by the heat wave we had. So as an annual, is it done now? Or do I cut it back quite hard, will it resprout? Or do I just deadhead and hope it grows new flowers. I thought it’s supposed to flower until autumn? Can I sow new from seeds again now or is it too late?

I would cut it back and see what happens. I think it will regrow.
Probably too late to sow now, but you could sow some in Autumn to overwinter.

Thanks @AnniD, I’ll cut it but I never know how far back to cut too. Like my tall shasta daisies that are over or lying down, do I cut back by a third like deadheading or half like Chelsea chop or to the ground virtually to rejuvenate like hardy geraniums?

My instinct is to cut down any old stems to the crown of the plant, if that makes sense.
More drastic than a Chelsea Chop, but not quite as drastic as a hardy geranium.  :)

Thanks @AnniD, the fairly drastic cut is done. We shall see. It’s not worse than how it looked before and I might still get that whole rose pot into the ground anyway, less watering for summer.
