Cut ? and come again lettuce

  I do it with all of mine. If you sow seed every few weeks you can then replace them when they're exhausted. 
  It's more practical if you don't have room to plant them out individually to grow to full size. I just sow thinly in small pots or trays, and then grow on small clumps, rather than prick them all out. It also mean you don't end up with a load of full sized ones which you can't eat all at once anyway. 

  It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  I cut, snip or pick individual leaves of the ones I sow thickly as Cut and Come again ... not slice the base of the whole plant as you would with a Cos, Little Gem or butterhead type lettuce grown individually.

  I have planted up some Cut and Come Again lettuce, 5 plants, in a long trough, like a window box. I just pick a few leaves from each plant as and when I want them.
  They usually last me through the summer without a need to replace.

  I only grow these,and salad bowl lettuce. Hubby hates salad,finds full size lettuce too 'strong'. I cut a mostly the bigger outer leaves off, grow from seed in a window box planter,I keep in a green house just to keep it out of the slugs way. Once in a blue moon,he will have a burger in bun, wants a little bit of lettuce
