garden lilies

Does anyone know what these brown dollops are on the stem and leaves of the plant - they look like poo?
The lilies have been attacked by lily beetles which I have been removing by hand.
Thank you
Gwen

The lily beetles lay eggs in their poo 😱 get rid as soon as possible!

I've found the most successful ( and least squeamish way) of dealing with the beetles is to flick them into a jam jar of water and washing up liquid, they can't get out because of the washing up liquid....I take great glee in swirling the water around with my 'flicking teaspoon ' creating a whirlpool. Sorry, I'm not normally so callous, but they can easily ruin lilies in a very short space of time. Hold the jam jar under the leaf as you flick them, they automatically drop down and hey presto you have the blighters.

I hosed all these down with washing up liquid lovingly, getting rid of all the poo to save them. I've known people give up on lilies because of the beetle problem. Start as early as you can drowning them. I love it when you get a double whammy, one on top of the other. Sorry, shouldn't be do cruel. 🤭😅😱

The poo contains and protects  the larvae. They pupate in the soil and the whole process starts again. Adults, larvae and orange eggs can all be picked off but you will need to be observant from February onwards.
