Willow going black

Robert183Robert183 Posts: 11
We have a Willow tree, similar to a kilmarnock willow, about 1 M high and it has been planted about 2 years. It started to come into leaf ok and then the leaves shrivelled and dropped, some of the thinner stems then turned totally black. I pruned these all off but now the thicker branches are getting black blotches on them with no thickening in these areas. I had scraped the bark with my finger nail in a couple of small not black areas it is still green underneath. Is there anything that can be done or is the tree now doomed? No leaves at all now and black blotches growing in size and number daily.

A photo would help, but if foliage is dropping it suggests drought. Willows of any kind need huge amounts of water.
How and where is it being grown?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

it is growing in a front garden border where there was a tree previously, I live in the central belt of Scotland so not the driest of places!! It has thrived for 2 summers previously and the weather though not particularly wet hasn't been very dry either.

Looks dry and overcrowded to me but I’m no expert ,does it have enough soil now that it’s established, looks a very small area .

Plenty of soil, beside a lawn area so room for the roots to spread, a bigger tree was in the same place previously with roods and stump dug out so a hole much larger than the original pot the tree came in was created by removing the old tree.
