Moth hatched?

I had a wooly moth cocoon in the holey finger of a gardening glove in the shed. I've been keeping an eye on it, but it disappeared yesterday, along with all traces of the spun cocoon. It doesn't look like anything got in and ate it as there's no disturbance to the glove - my question is, would the moth have emerged with the cocoon still 'stuck' and dropped it as it left?
(I have another one very near it on some wood, which is still there.)
