Callistemon pruning advice

andy1977andy1977 Posts: 39
How do you prune spent flowers on a Callistemon (standard) tree please?

Do you cut just before the flower, or just after to leave the pods on the stem?

Also, do you deadhead as soon as the flowers are spent or at the end of the flowering period?

Thanks

You prune behind the flower (left arrow area), or even further back if you wish to keep the plant balanced. If you don't do that, it takes around a year for the seed-pods to mature and harden and the shrub will become lax and droopy. Prune after flowers are spent, this ensures you get flowering next year.
