    I think it's a phormium rather than a cordyline, and l call it a flower spike  :)
Mine did that about 7 years ago, and from memory, after it flowered l waited for the seed pods to form, then cut the whole spike off. As soon as the pods dried, l harvested the seed and then stored them until the following March.
I had a fairly successful germination rate, but it took a couple of years before they got to a reasonable size. I still have one in a pot, the leaves are narrower than the parent for some reason.

  • Here is mine. It is dying off now so I will have a go with the seed pods as @iby1969. We have lived in our cottage for 15 years and it is the first time it has flowered. The smell is wonderful. 😃

Cordyline, not Phormium. Phormium flower spikes look like this

Different growing habit for each plant, as you can see from the two photos.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks for that most appreciated 🙏
  • Yes it's a cordyline red star by the looks of it. Very normal for it to be flowering at this time of year.

If you like it, you can leave the flower spike until it starts to fade and then remove it at the base when it starts to look untidy.  (Some people don't like the scent so you could remove it now if you don't like it, there will be no harm done to the plant.)
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
