RATS UNDER DECKING

I would throw a few blocks of rat poison (I have used a brand called Just One Bite but I don't know what's available in the UK) under the decking near their paths. Not much you can do about the overgrown yard, unfortunately, unless you are friendly enough with your neighbors to talk to them about cleaning up the rubbish and keeping the plants trimmed.

Thankyou for your advice ...... but what if it dies under my decking  :open_mouth: thats what im worried about??

  • Bait station boxes can be effective. The rat eats the poison then goes back to its den where it dies.
Based on your photos about half a dozen of these should have an effect on the rat population but until the food source is removed they will never really disappear.

Overgrown gardens don't get rats. A ready food source gets rats.  This could be someone throwing food out  or bird seed dropping from feeders.  Decking is an ideal place for rats to hide under, it saves them digging holes.
It's getting to that time of year where people have bbqs in the evenings, they have a few drinks, get a bit sloshed, then go to bed without clearing up left over food. It happens the world over.

Can sympathise with you, rats give me the heebie-jeebies too.
Trying to be the person my dog thinks I am!

I only had mice, never rats, but I imagine it's similar. They ate the bait and then went away to find water (it's a blood thinner and makes them quite thirsty), never to return. I'm not saying it is impossible for the rat to die there under your deck, it's just not as likely as you'd think.

Is there a way to get under your deck? We have a crawl space under ours. Even if you had to pry off a board from the top side, it shouldn't be too difficult to extract the animal if the need arises.
