Cutting back oriental poppy?

Hello, quick question. I've had a big oriental poppy plant for the past few years. Am I right to cut it back to the base after flowering. I did last year and it was dormant after cutting back until early autumn when it started to produce foliage.

I don’t cut oriental poppies back hard. Just dead head through the summer then remove any really manky leaves in autumn. Mine this year are glorious.
  • I do the same as debs64. Mine has also been wonderful this year.
Cutting it back now gets its natural growth timing out of sync. which is why yours came into growth in the autumn.
