Weeding

Sick to the back teeth of weeding now. I just want to get every bit of grass covered with membrane, do I need to de-weed before hand? The weeds won't be getting any light. Just losing the motivation to keep going with it all due to the amount of sodding weeds!!!

Maybe gardening is not your thing.

Have you got a Dutch hoe?

Maybe punkdoc has a point, but you'll have to com to terms with an initial marathon job bringing the lot under control.  After that it's just our old friend 'Little & Often' to keep them down.

@Lewisium- when you say you want to cover every bit of grass with membrane, do you mean you just want to get rid of a lawn, or do you mean something else?
If it's weeds between planting in a border, then you either need to hoe them off, or you need more groundcover planting and/or a thick mulch of compost or similar to help keep them down.
There will always be an element of weeding to do, especially during the growing season when conditions suit, but there are ways to combat it.  :)

To make weeding a lot easier; after you've weeded cover the area with a thick layer of compost. You can also add a layer of bark on top for added security. That will suppress the weeds, as does planting tightly.  Some of the perennial weeds will probably still pop through, just attack them by digging out all trace of their root.

Sorry @Fairygirl, you beat me to the same answer :)

    It's the usual process @Jenny_Aster ;)
If persistent weeds come through, they can also be spot weeded with a suitable product without damaging other planting. It just requires a bit of patience, and a calm day.

Weeding can be quite a satisfying job and you may discover some self seeded plants among them. You will always have weeds, it's just a case of getting on top of them and then trying to stay on top.
