Callicarpa japonica ‘Leucocarpa’ seems to be failing

I bought this and a Profusion as 9" plug plants in March. They're growing in exactly the same soil/location yet the Leucocarpa is clearly not a happy camper. Any suggestions as to why this might be? Potting mix is 80/20 John Innes 3/ericaceous, in 30" pots, S/W sheltered aspect. (I did go onto the RHS advice page with this, got a really speedy reply, 2 days later and I'm still waiting for the results page to load!)

That is a very big pot for a very small plant, which is never a good idea.
