Compost Bin - Potato Peelings Sprouting

As per the title, some of the potato peelings in my [darlek] compost bin have been sprouting with considerable length shoots. Is this normal?

Yes … that’s perfectly normal. If left undisturbed you may even get a few little potatoes grow. However it would be better practice to regularly stir/turn the compost as you add new material. Any growing potatoes will die off in the winter.

They couldn’t afford seed potatoes during the war,  they just cut the eyes out of what they had for dinner.  I’ve had quite a few potatoes growing in the GH that I grow the tomatoes in.

I let them grow. You sometimes get enough for a meal. As far as I know, they're not doing any harm to your compost. I've got one or two on my heap that I'm hoping to harvest if they survive
