Linaria can be long lived in a free draining soil. In my clay two years maximum before it is woody and gives up. Even seedlings can struugle, so time for a change and grow something else.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
That's good to know, thanks GardenerSuze. Everything else is doing well there, but maybe it just didn't get enough water. I've cut the dead looking stems off and given it a good water. (of course now it's raining!) Time will tell!
